About

The Land of the Pointed Firs is the name of my art fair business because it evokes the magic of Maine’s still wild environment. My goal is to share the magical feeling of this unique environment with others. Through this direct sales business, I sell collage-based acrylic paintings, giclee prints, calendars, and cards, through art fairs in Maine. I can be found on Instagram as kbdesrosiers_artist. I can also be contacted at kellyofunity@gmail.com.

Upcoming 2024 Art Fairs: Guini Ridge Farm Christmas Market, held each Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM between Thanksgiving and Christmas at the heated greenhouses in Rockport, Maine.

Artist’s Bio: I have been living and creating for over 43 years in midcoast Maine, homeland of the Wabanaki people. I currently work in mixed media, a combination of any of the following: collage, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, ink, and pastel. My work ranges from landscape or seascape-inspired to abstract, but always informed by Maine. I have always lived in wild, rural areas: the upper Midwest, Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and finally Maine. I grew up on a farm, now live on a small farm, and the environment plays the greatest role in my life. I earned a degree in Animal & Veterinary Science and had significant work experiences involving wildlife and agriculture, but took a sharp left turn toward art because of a mysterious, everpresent, compelling drive that I finally could not ignore. I then earned an undergraduate degree in studio art (printmaking), and Master of Fine Art (sculpture), followed by 30 years of teaching art, K-college, and now I channel all of that into artmaking.

Artist’s Statement: I blend ideas and motifs from multiple long-standing interests in biology, ecology, geology, chemistry, earth science, and the evolution of species, all of which I studied as a serious adult. However, primed with all that awe-inspiring understanding of how the world works, I now seek to create images with the spirit of my 10 year old self, who still had a mystic’s view of the natural world and its intricacies and powers. I then had a rich inner life which played out in fields and wetlands and forests, on solo journeys of adventure and observation. At that point I had no logical or intellectual understandings, but swam in the waters of my own imagination, infused with poetry, story and myth. Like many artists, I suspect, my artist’s journey has been like that of Odysseus, a circling back to return to the source of power within myself. That place of innocent, unselfconscious kinship with everything that exists; that is my locus of power.
