'Deer at Water's Edge' 30"x22" describes a moment as a deer glides silently and ethereally into view where a mountain has descended to a pristine northern river. The mountain vibrates with the energy of its geological upthrust, and all the life that dwells upon it. The sky swirls and the river surges past, representing time passing. This painting seems to me to have something eternal and powerful about it. It is watercolor and ink mounted on panel. ***AVAILABLE through Blue Raven Gallery, Rockland, Maine 207-466-7799

Wabanaki Mountain 30"x22" The title of this piece is A Wabanaki Mountain because all the lands that we now call Maine are Wabanaki ancestral homelands. This painting was inspired by Katahdin, which I visit yearly, and which is sacred to Wabanaki people. The double curoe motif, found in several cultures but especially common in Wabanaki art, is in homage to this fact. Katahdin is magnificent, rich in every way. In the fall, the Blue Bead Lily puts out its seeds in oval capsules of the most pewter blue on slender stalks on the forest floor. This color struck me one fall as it contrasted with the autumn oranges on the mountain. It is watercolor and ink mounted on panel. *** AVAILABLE through Blue Raven Gallery, Rockland, Maine 207-466-7799

'Wolves on Ice', 30"x22", describes a remote and wild landscape, capped with a night sky glittering with stars. The freedom and playfulness of the wolves as they joyously run adds to the overall movement and energy of the painting. The composition zig-zags across the piece, while delicately layered colors frame a window for the viewer. This was inspired by my time living in Alaska. It is watercolor and ink mounted on panel. ***AVAILABLE through Blue Raven Gallery, Rockland, Maine 207-466-7799

'November Migration' 30"x22", describes the seasonal changes of November in the north country, including ochre grasses and pewter skies, blustery winds, and the migration of birds along the flyways and waterways that they rely on. Patterns layered within the piece reflect the repetition of generations of birds, and other life, repeating the cycle over great spans of ecological time that seem to have been endlessly repeated. Time, movement, and beauty inherent in natural rhythms is expressed. Given that I grew up along a major flyway, I can almost hear the honking and squawking cacophony of the birds, yet I also feel silence and feel the brisk wind on my) face. It is watercolor and ink mounted on panel. ***AVAILABLE through Blue Raven Gallery, Rockland, Maine 207-466-7799
