Spiral Jetty 10x8.
Original Painting by Kelly B Desrosiers 10”x8”x.75” ready to hang.
In this artwork, I attempt to convey the magical feel of the coastal islands of Maine: dark, pointed fir and spruce-capped islands, sparkling water and waves against rocky shores, cool breezes, wheeling birds, and the smaller creatures that inhabit the area where land meets sea. I used here one of my favorite motifs: a spiral that was originally the enlarged tail of a seahorse. I love it for its evocation of cycling of elements in nature, and its mystical, earthy quality.
This piece is a mixed media artwork involving a multi-layered technique that I evolved over several years. A richly textured surface, with luminous color and visual depth results. For me, the overlapping patterns in layers of transparency and complexity represent the intertwined ecological relationships of this special place.
This painting has been created on a cradled wood panel with black painted edges, no additional framing required, with hanging wire attached. I handcraft each and every step of my process in my own modest home studio in Unity, Maine. Mine is a one-woman operation, start to finish!
