Sculpture
Sculpture was a fascination that began late in my undergrad work, and I carved soapstone with plexi elements attached, as well as assembled wooden work. When I was a broke homesteader with only firewood as my material I carved the unsplit lengths and slices with gouges, painted it, and photographed it in my woods and fields. In grad school I was inadvertently placed in a ceramics studio and so with no experience and “beginners mind” I began using clay any way I could, horrifying my colleagues by ignoring all their techniques. Eventually my MFA thesis work became multiple site-specific installations of clay forms in natural environments on a multi-state road trip. I enjoyed the experience.
None of this work is available, except the fleet, which I have been saving for a special occasion, and the marble boats.
