Calm Seas 24"x18" (for sale, but promised to an exhibit at Maine Coastal Islands Refuge Center in Rockland, ME for one month this Sept/Oct)
Original Painting by Kelly B Desrosiers, 24”x18”x1.25", ready to hang.
This large painting of the coast of Maine expresses the swirl of seaside life through shapes and textures rather than explicit representations, although representations of sea life are visible in the details. The colors are muted in order to allow them to take center stage.
This piece is a mixed media artwork involving a multi-layered technique that I evolved over several years. A richly textured surface, with luminous color and visual depth results. For me, the overlapping patterns in layers of transparency and complexity represent the intertwined ecological relationships of this special place.
This painting has been created on a cradled wood panel with black painted edges, no additional framing required, with hanging wire attached. I handcraft each and every step of my process in my own modest home studio in Unity, Maine. Mine is a one-woman operation, start to finish!
