Elwell Farm 14x11
Original Painting by Kelly B Desrosiers, 14”x11”x1.25”, ready to hang.
Elwell Farm is an example of quintessential Maine architecture, not fancy, no longer inhabited, a beautiful relic of the sort sadly disappearing from our state. I wanted to commemorate it so I photographed it, in the drab spring, but transformed it into brilliant autumn glory while imagining children playing in the sugar maple leaves in the front yard long ago.
This piece is a mixed media artwork involving a multi-layered technique that I evolved over several years. A richly textured surface, with luminous color and visual depth results. For me, the overlapping patterns in layers of transparency and complexity represent the intertwined ecological relationships of this special place.
This painting has been created on a cradled wood panel with black painted edges, no additional framing required, with hanging wire attached. I handcraft each and every step of my process in my own modest home studio in Unity, Maine. Mine is a one-woman operation, start to finish!
