Monhegan Village 10x10
Original Painting by Kelly B Desrosiers, 10”x10”x1.25”, ready to hang.
What is it about not just the wild parts of Monhegan but the village itself that is so charming? The modest size of the cottages, their traditional shingled or clapboard style, their clustering in a distinct village, the attention to unique small yards? All of that, but I think especially the fact that there are no paved roads, just a narrow winding gravel road that the cottages hug closely, few or funky signs, only a few trucks on the whole island, no cars, just golf carts and walkers. Whatever it is, I love it and so do many others!
This piece is a mixed media artwork involving a multi-layered technique that I evolved over several years. A richly textured surface, with luminous color and visual depth results. For me, the overlapping patterns in layers of transparency and complexity represent the intertwined ecological relationships of this special place.
This painting has been created on a cradled wood panel with black painted edges, no additional framing required, with hanging wire attached. I handcraft each and every step of my process in my own modest home studio in Unity, Maine. Mine is a one-woman operation, start to finish!
