Purple Asters, Calderwood Neck 18x24

$875.00

Original Painting by Kelly B Desrosiers,  18”x24”x1.25", ready to hang.

Calderwood Neck is on Vinalhaven, an island so interrupted by bodies of water (inlets, coves, mudflats, wetlands) that it feels like many different islands. I was struck by a patch of vivid asters in late summer that hosted so many butterflies and other insects! With the view of sailboats on the ocean beyond, it just begged to be painted.

This piece is a mixed media artwork involving a multi-layered technique that I evolved over several years. A richly textured surface, with luminous color and visual depth results. For me, the overlapping patterns in layers of transparency and complexity represent the intertwined ecological relationships of this special place.

This painting has been created on a cradled wood panel with black painted edges, no additional framing required, with hanging wire attached. I handcraft each and every step of my process in my own modest home studio in Unity, Maine. Mine is a one-woman operation, start to finish!
