Wassataquoik Lake 10x10

$400.00

Original Painting by Kelly B Desrosiers,  10”x10”x1.25”, ready to hang.

Wassataquoik Lake is a remote lake in the wilderness of Baxter State Park in northern Maine. In this painting it is seen from a high distance, situated like a sparkling bead of water held between the forested slopes of mountains all around it. This square painting emphasizes the shape of the body of water, reflecting the sky above, in contrast to the forested slopes in either light or shadow, encircling it and holding it like a cupped palm. I enjoy the simplicity and abstraction of the shapes in this piece.

This piece is a mixed media artwork involving a multi-layered technique that I evolved over several years. A richly textured surface, with luminous color and visual depth results. For me, the overlapping patterns in layers of transparency and complexity represent the intertwined ecological relationships of this special place.

This painting has been created on a cradled wood panel with black painted edges, no additional framing required, with hanging wire attached. I handcraft each and every step of my process in my own modest home studio in Unity, Maine. Mine is a one-woman operation, start to finish!
